Is there a special way to pray?
When we look at the prophets, Elijah, Moses, David and others we see that prayer was always a simple conversation with God and there were no special ways to pray. They simply talked to God, with faith and humility. Jesus himself teaches us a lot about prayer. Watch the video of his teaching. He clearly teaches us not to try to impress others through our praying, but to humbly come to God. When we do that and express faith and use simple words, Jesus promises us that God will reward us. At another time Jesus taught his disciples the power of praying in His own name. Listen to Rita’s story about what happened when her friend prayed in the name of Jesus.

Matthew 6:5-8
Read what Jesus says about the prayers that God rewards
Matthew 6:5-8 (NIV)
5 Jesus said “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.”

Will God answer my prayers?
Will God answer my prayers?
Listen
Many of us carry burdens in life. Sometimes we tell God about them. We wonder, will God answer our prayers. The prophets, Moses and Abraham often prayed to God and He spoke back to them. Once Abraham pleaded with God to rescue his nephew who was in danger. God answered and saved his nephew’s life?
So, will God answer our prayers, like he did for Abraham ? Jesus tells a story to show us what matters to God when we pray. It is our heart . Is our heart clean ? He points out to his listeners that it is easy to think we are good people and have no faults. However the one who recognises his faults and tells God about them is the person who God listens to. If we are hoping for God to answer our prayer- this is the starting point. Watch this story (on video) and see what you think.

Luke 18: 9-14
Read Jesus' parable about prayer
Luke 18: 9-14 (NIV)
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’
13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
